Dr Sandhya Pisharody
Software Architect & STEM Ambassador
Sandhya is a software engineer and architect with nearly 20 years of experience in the industry, having worked on diverse fields. She started her career with computer telephony and automated telephone response systems and building prototypes for automated dialers (yes, you can blame her for some of those "press 1 for this and press 2 for that" kind of systems!). Having worked nearly 10 years with the NHS managing various specialist computer systems and even building a few bespoke ones, she now works for a global oncology company, helping to architect solutions that fit the UK/ Europe oncology market.
Sandhya has always been passionate about computer science and passing on her knowledge and skill set to the next generation. She joined the STEM Ambassador network in 2017 with this goal and has been actively visiting various schools for career talks as well as reaching out to the younger students to introduce them to the varied branches of computer science such as cryptography and games. She has also been running a regular computer club for KS1 & KS2 at a North Yorkshire school for the past 2 years.
Having lived in East Yorkshire for over 15 years, she is now keen to develop the digital literacy programme here and has teamed up with the Petuaria Community Centre in Brough to offer computer programming sessions every Sunday to our younger community.
